Breaking News: Pizza saved a man’s life.

March 1, 2010

It’s true. I saw it with my own eyes. Here’s how the story goes but let me set it up for you:

The “man”, Phil Esau, one of our resident iPhone Repair Experts, normally goes home for lunch as he lives very close to the office. Typically, just like every other Friday of the month, he would have left at about 11am to take his hour break to munch on some home made goodness. However last Friday was a little different. . .

We organized a company luncheon and I brought in a bunch of pizzas from our local delivery company.

So as the story progresses, it just so happened that Phil decided to stay at Mission Repair to eat pizza with the rest of the group. Concurrently, our local natural gas company, Atmos Energy, was making their rounds through Phil’s neighborhood and when they approached his house, they noticed a faint gas smell in the vicinity.

Upon further investigation and exploration the Atmos employee decides that there is some sort of major gas leak coming from Phil’s house! This is just crazy, and since there is no one home the only choice they have is to call the fire department to forcibly enter Phil’s house. Which they did.

The Olathe Fire Department smashed his front door in. During lunch, Phil received a call and rushed home to asses the damage.

There was in fact a leaking valve in the house. It had filled his house with gas, and had Phil made his way home for lunch at his usual 11am time slot, he would have entered like normal, flipped on a light switch, and the rest would be history.

It shall be known, that Phil “the luckiest man alive” was saved by pizza. It’s just the facts ;-)

OK, let me come down from the drama. This actually happened to Phil and he’s in the process of getting a new front door. He DOES feel lucky, and it was fortuitous that the gas man was walking by at the same time the leak started, and also that Phil did not come home at his normal lunch time. Phil, we’re glad to have you and your house intact!

In honor of Phil’s destiny unfolding before his eyes, we’re issuing a 15% off coupon to memorialize his big day. That’s right, 15% off any order between now and 3/15/10. Just enter coupon code “DESTINY” and it’ll remove that 15% off immediately. Just remember that this coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupon!

Take care, Ryan

Snowballs in Kansas City and 10% off your entire order!

February 12, 2010

Hello all! Well the good “snowball snow” is melting fast, but just the other day my son Casey came home from school and made the biggest snowball that I’ve ever seen in person:

Casey with an "unthrowable" snowball.

The snow was just perfect. It was sticky (not powdery) for snowball making. Casey just rolled this beauty by himself around the yard until he couldn’t move it any more. You can’t see from this picture, but he had the help of a hill to his left, that “assisted” him in making this mammoth. What did he end up doing with it? It’s now reduced to just a small pile of snow that will probably be totally melted away by the end of the day.

In remembrance of Casey’s work, we’re gonna let Mission Repair work for you. Do you need an iPod or iPhone Repair? Not a problem, we’re offering 10% off your entire order today through Friday 2/19/10 at midnight. So don’t wait, get your order placed asap. Just use coupon code “bigsnow” and we’ll take 10% off your order (cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupon, sorry!)

Take care, and send me your favorite snowball pics. I’ll post them on the blog!

A little bit about Mission Repair, in case you didn’t already know.

February 4, 2010

Good afternoon everyone. If you’ve been watching the market (like Mac Rumors, Engadget, Apple Insider, CNN, NPR, Wall Street Journal and every other Mac-related blog lately) you might have heard a little about Mission Repair in the last couple of days.

Ryan Arter and Kyle Baccus, Owners

Kyle and I have been working together since 1994, where we began our careers working for a monitor and floppy drive repair shop. Yes, you heard me correctly, ERC was servicing computer monitors and floppy drives in the California Bay Area. The fun part about it was that we immediately began repairing Apple 13″ RGB Monitors and Apple AI (auto-inject) and Apple MI (manual-inject) floppy disk drives. Kyle was the Shipping Manager and I was the Apple Program Manager. . .We worked with the technicians and repaired THOUSANDS of these little goodies. This experience let us expand into the Apple market in which we are proud to be a part of today – I also picked up some super serious soldering skills during my tenure at ERC. Yup, that sounds like a surface mount soldering challenge ;-)

After several years of learning and planning, we continued to work together as a team – with a few interruptions in our careers – and a gutsy move out to Kansas City – but always talking and growing our knowledge in the field. After working on iPods, then iPhones and with our thorough knowledge of Macintosh Portables (we are both Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians) we started Mission:Repair with one goal in mind. To service customers in the most professional and “service oriented” way that we knew how. We just treat our customers as we want to be treated. That’s the magic potion!

Are we perfect? Naw. Do we want to be? Sure.

With this mentality in mind, we were able to land (totally independently I might add!) the prestigious “GOLD AWARD” by Top Ten Reviews for 2009 for best iPhone Repair Company. This review certainly solidified our business model and was an excellent testimonial to our dedication and commitment to our customers. Yes, it’s hard work. Yes, our families have had to put up with us. Yes we are rewarded daily by the thank you’s and happy customers.

On behalf of myself, and my partner Kyle Baccus, we invite you to get to know us better. If you’re in the Kansas City area, stop on by our clean commercial facility and we’ll be there. Enjoy a cup of cappuccino from our kitchen. If you’d like to send us an email, you can do that here.

EMAIL RYANEMAIL KYLE

OK, that’s all that I’ve got for now, but I hope this helps you understand us a little better. For all of our friends out there, we wish you a great February (it’s the LOVE month!) and be safe at the Super Bowl party. I think that I’ll be making my famous meatball sandwiches for my kids and loved ones this sunday. . .it’ll be a good day for that! I’m sure Kyle will be spending the Super Bowl with his wife and daughter – he’s also got a new little one on the way, but that’s a whole new blog entirely.

Take care, we’ll back back shortly with some more news and specials from all of us here at Mission Repair.

Best, Ryan

Go Red for the ladies!

February 4, 2010

Hello all-

I just learned that February is National Heart Month, and the American Heart Association focuses on women and heart disease. Ladies should wear Red, on Red Day, (the first Friday in February) which is designed to increase awareness of cardiovascular diseases that claim the lives of nearly 500,000 women each year.

Show your support and learn a little more at the American Heart Association. It’s for a good cause!

I’ve got a lot more blogging to do today, so stay tuned and thanks for reading!

Take care, Ryan

Best stew recipe and 10% off your next repair order!

January 25, 2010

Hello all- I’ve been busy with a lot of business today. Mondays are always a little hectic. I stopped by my house this afternoon to check on my stew that’s cooking in the crock pot, and after taking a sample, am compelled to share my recipe. Here it is, for those of you that “NEED” the best stew recipe on the planet! It’s world famous ;-) and is dedicated to a buddy of mine, Mick Myers whom I’ve been teaching the ways in crock pot cookery. Here what it’ll look like before you turn the cooker on (picture from this morning)-

I made a “double batch” but you can always 1/2 it if you’d like. Add and stir all of these ingredients into the slow cooker that’s been coated with non-stick spray:

2 lbs. stew beef
1 large white onion cut into 1″ sections
4 large sweet potatoes cut into 1.5″ sections
4 slices of thick cut bacon, diced
2 cans beef broth, 14 oz ea.
1 tbs. dried thyme
2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt

Cook this mixture for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. Then remove the meat and veggies. Turn the crock pot on high and add 4 tbs of cornstarch to the remaining liquid. Cook for 15 minutes until it’s bubbly and thickened. Cover the meat and veggies with this bubbly sauce and you’d got “Ryan’s Famous Sweet Potato and Bacon Stew”. Just right for a cold day like this one in Kansas City! Do yourself a favor and add some King’s Hawaiian Sweet Bread on the side and give it a try, trust me Mick!

OK, in honor of my favorite stew recipe, I’m giving 10% off your repair order good through the end of the month- that’s 10% your ENTIRE order, including shipping! Just type in “sweetstew” when placing your order online and you’re good to go. Good for iPod repair, iPhone repair, or any other repair we offer. Please remember that this coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupon.

Thanks everyone, take care, Ryan
