I heard this earlier coming from the tech room and unfortunately it can be a common occurrence here at the Mission Repair.

I’d like my customers to think of it this way; let us go through the pains of the repair. Many customers try to perform repairs on their own inevitably to only hurt themselves (or their device) in the process. Most of our repairs are glass screen repairs and this is clearly the more “dangerous” type of service. . .because there’s broken glass involved. Our troops at Mission Repair are fully trained (and insured I might add) to work on these delicate yet dangerous services. We know the risks involved.

Today’s victim was Ryan Flynn – a.k.a. “Flynn” around here. Flynn is an active Marine, a rugged individual with extensive military background and a strong spirit. Here he is today:

OK, this is an exaggeration – he did cut himself, but I want to assure you that he did not need stitches, nor this many bandages, or even a call to his mommy. Flynn “manned up” and cleaned his wound, wrapped a band-aid around it and went back to work.

Actually, I’m gearing up for a camping trip this weekend. Yes, you heard me right, I’m heading out in a couple of hours to hit the wilderness in the middle of December, in the middle of Kansas. This last month has been a ruckus for me personally, so I need some quiet nature time to myself.

It’s due to be in the 20′s overnight but I feel like I’m ready for it. I’m heading out with our Shipping Manager, Lennie and we’re going to rough it for a few days. It’s little known but I’m a pretty big outdoor enthusiast and I like to be outside. I try to go camping several times every year and I have plans to hike in Peru soon. In fact, did you know that I scaled Mount Everest? Here’s a shot of me on Everest last year:

It was a nice enough day that I thought a short sleeve shirt was appropriate. It’s not as high as I thought, it took me about 4 minutes to get to the top after I stopped for some s’mores! OK, I know it’s corny, but sometimes life is just too serious for me. I’m trying to make you smile! Did it work?

Well, I need to get my checklist out and I promise to take a few pictures of this weekend – I’ll share them with you next week.

I’m glad to be back in the office this week! How was your Easter Sunday? Went pretty well for me however my youngest child is 14 years old and still wants to do an Easter egg hunt. I took care of him last night and let he and his sisters roam the yard searching for eggs. . .For dinner I made a huge batch of fried chicken in my outdoor fryer and made several flavors of wings and breasts. Mashed potatoes, gravy and corn on the cob off the grill rounded out the meal with a strawberry cake as the grand finale!

Now that we have the much anticipated Verizon version of the iPhone 4 released it’s time to give an update on the Verizon Screen Assembly vs. the AT&T Screen Assembly. We have been receiving both here at Mission Repair and are replacing screens daily.

I have seen many different posts and claims about the iPhone 4 versions, and want to clarify one distinct discovery. The screens are the same for both phones. This can be important to know, because some vendors are charging a higher price for the Verizon iPhone 4 Screen Repair. Don’t fall for this “new product” marketing gimmick, there is no premium for the Verizon version of the screen vs. the AT&T version. The fact is that the FRAME on the screen is different, but the screen assembly (which can be removed from the frame) is the same and is interchangeable between the two phones.

The bottom line: While there are many differences between the two phones. . .THE SCREEN ASSEMBLIES (the glass, digitizer, and lcd pack) ARE THE SAME.

The dreaded iPhone 4 “cracked glass” issue!

We are flowing a massive amount of 3G Glass Replacements through our business these days – iPhone 4 parts and repairs are steadily growing and I want to clear up a few inquiries right here:

1. The 3G/3GS Glass and Digitizer WILL NOT WORK in your iPhone 4. As they look similar, they are 100% different products and not interchangeable.

2. The iPhone 4 Glass Repair is more expensive than the 3G and 3GS iPhone Glass Repair. The reason is that the iPhone 4 version of the glass was an assembly of the glass, digitizer, and LCD screen. The 3G version has a separate LCD screen, and therefore it’s a less expensive assembly.

3. You cannot just replace the glass on the iPhone 4. To fix a cracked glass on an iPhone 4 we must replace the glass, digitizer and the LCD as I stated above. These parts are (for a lack of better term) “fused” together from the factory. There is just no way to safely separate and reuse any of these parts.

4. You cannot use “plexiglass” and perform your own “cheap” repair. This is ridiculous. I have seen posts advising this and I challenge anyone to prove that they can get the touch digitizer and LCD off of their broken glass front and get it to work with a home made plexiglass front. Can’t be done.

5. We do sell “Do-it-yourself” iPhone 4 Glass assemblies. You can find them on our website. The 3G version is much easier but it’s still only for the very “technically inclined” end user.

This will help with some of the common questions, for sure. We know that there are many theories out there but you can take solid advice from us here at Mission Repair. The next day, I was still trying to shake off a little flu that I had all week. Nothing major, just some head pressure. So Saturday I rallied Casey and my daughter, Tayler, to go on a hike with me. The three of us went out to Ernie Miller Park in Johnson County and had a blast. The weather here in Kansas City has been spectacular. We’ve been in the mid-70 degrees and I wore shorts and a tank top on the hike. We explored the park and walked several miles up hills over bridges, and even crossed a few running creeks. Was very peaceful and it allowed me to burn off some of that Halloween Candy from the night before! Normally at this time of year we’re starting to get pretty cold but this nice break of good weather has got everyone thinking “outdoors” while we can. I predict snow in November here in KC, I’ll post a picture when it happens!
