Hello everyone, this post is in response to the THOUSANDS of you that have read my earlier post about iPhone 3G Glass and Digitizer Replacements. I just need to clarify some of the questions that we receive constantly about this particular repair.

The dreaded Original iPhone 2G “cracked glass” issue!

We are flowing a massive amount of 3G Glass Replacements through our business these days but we still get questions about the Original 2G iPhone Parts and I want to clear up a few inquiries right here:

1. The 3G Glass and Digitizer WILL NOT WORK in your Original 2G iPhone. As they look similar from the outside, they are 100% different products and not interchangeable.

2. The Original 2G iPhone Glass Repair is more expensive than the 3G iPhone Glass Repair. The reason is that the 2G version of the glass was an assembly of the glass, digitizer, and LCD screen. The 3G version has a separate LCD screen, and therefore it’s a less expensive assembly.

3. You cannot just replace the glass on the 2G iPhone (or the 3G for that matter). To fix a cracked glass on a 2G iPhone we must replace the glass, digitizer and the LCD as I stated above. These parts are (for a lack of better term) “fused” together from the factory. There is just no way to safely separate and reuse any of these parts.

4. You cannot use “plexiglass” and perform your own “cheap” repair. This is ridiculous. I have seen posts advising this and I challenge anyone to prove that they can get the touch digitizer and LCD off of their broken glass front and get it to work with a home made plexiglass front. Can’t be done.

5. We don’t sell “Do-it-yourself” 2G iPhone Glass/Digitizer/LCD assemblies because the repair is TOO DIFFICULT to perform without ruining the back on your unit during disassembly. If you don’t care about your back being bent up then you can try it, but trust me you should leave this repair to the experts. The 3G version is much easier but it’s still only for the very “technically inclined” end user.

This will help with some of the common questions, for sure. We know that there are many theories out there but you can take solid advice from us here at Mission Repair. We’ve repaired THOUSANDS of units and it makes perfect sense to listen to the voice of experience. Still have questions? Give us a call at 866-638-8402 and we’ll get you on the phone with a technician right away!

Thanks everyone, have a great weekend. Ryan

Hello everyone, I’m still here at the office watching my techs finish a batch of iPhone 3G Digitizers and Glass replacements and realized that there is a lot of question and controversy out there regarding this particular repair. We’ve been hearing it from our customers all week. Our website has been busy taking an astounding number of orders for this repair as it appears that it’s going to be our highest demand iPhone 3G repair.

The dreaded iPhone 3G “cracked glass” issue!

Apparently, you can buy a replacement iPhone 3G Glass panel on eBay for +/- $20. (somewhere in that range) Let me tell you now- this will NOT repair your iPhone 3G! These are glass panels ONLY and DO NOT come with the digitizer pre-attached. The digitizer is the second layer that sits just under the glass top. There is NO WAY to remove your digitizer and reinstall it onto a replacement glass panel. If you’re looking to do this repair yourself, make sure that you buy the replacement glass panel and digitzer assembly as a unit!

I’ve also heard that you can’t just replace the digitizer/glass assembly, but rather you need the entire front panel including the home button and bracketry. This is also incorrect. Frankly, that would make this repair MUCH EASIER to perform, however it’s not necessary and these “complete” assemblies are not available in the market at this time. Trust us, we know.

The basic procedure is first disassembling the iPhone, removing the entire front panel and then slowly removing the damaged cracked glass and digitizer from the frame. The cool part about this is that other repair centers are using a utility knife to “pry” the glass out of the bezel which is a huge concern if you care about dings or nicks on your iPhone.

We here at Mission Repair have developed a system of removing the front digitizer without the “prying” technique. I wish that I could tell you the specifics but for now you’ll just have to trust me that this method is very gentle and successful. We WILL NOT incur further damage to your iPhone after we receive it.

Well that’s all for now but I just wanted to shed some light on the iPhone 3G “glass” issue. Be careful if you plan to do this repair yourself; however if you are successful please let me know and send over your resume, we’re always looking for great technicians! Ha!

See you later, Ryan
