Hello there everyone-
It’s now Monday afternoon, and we’re finished shipping orders for the day here at Mission Repair. I’m physically exhausted. . .
Speaking of exhausted, my son Casey, has his first wrestling match of the season this weekend. If you’ve ever been a wrestler or if you have a child that wrestles, you’ll know what I mean when I say “Organized Chaos”!
These wrestling meets are precisely that. There are hundreds of kids and parents jammed into some local school gym crowding the floor with lawn chairs and coolers. Wrestling matches are a different breed of spectator sport and certainly is a “different” type of sport altogether. Casey and I will likely arrive at the gym at 6:00am and not leave until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Casey will end up wrestling 3-5 times throughout the day with spans of several hours in between.
We’ll get there early, have him weigh in, and then immediately claim a spot in the gym. Locate his schedule, then decide on when and where he needs to be for his first match. As you know if you have been in the sport, it’s your responsibility to be at your match ahead of schedule or forfeit. With 16 mats rotating and can get overwhelming coupled with the 500 people yelling over one another it an be confusing and nerve wracking! Of course Casey has to wrestle and of course he wants to win, so these days become physically and emotionally draining for the both of us. . .so why do it?
Wresting brings out the best in him and he and I really bond on these days. I am his support, and he’s my hero. We laugh, cry and are both “in the match” when he goes out. It makes my heart ache when he loses and I want to just put him on my shoulders when he wins. It’s the unmatched “different” style of sport that draws us both. And he’s pretty good, which doesn’t hurt!
So he’s got 3 more full practices this week and then we’re off to compete. I’ll keep you posted, I have to run and get him ready for the “no pain no gain” workout he has tonight!
Talk to you later, I’ll get back to some business posts here shortly!
Ryan
